Re: Inherited Conn Saxophone - Need Info???

You have a Conn Director or commonly nicknamed "Shooting Star" student model horn. Some defend these as reasonably usable horns, as student models go. Others, including myself, have a lesser opinion of them overall. They certainly don't stack up to Conn's famous pro "artist" or "Naked Lady" horns, no one is likely to dispute. Either way, although your's is manufactured at the beginning of the period when Conn moved production of their student lines of horns from Elkhart IN to Nogalas AZ/Mexico (not a good thing), it is a better built instrument than those same models made in the late 1960's early 1970's. You can certainly learn the fundamentals on your horn, provided it is in proper working order and sealing. Speaking of: These aren't valued highly monetarily on the present market, so be careful how much money you sink into it to get it up and running, or you will quickly be upside down in cash outlay. Resale value is minimal.
