Leading M on serial number Conn alto

I have my dad's Conn alto sax serial #M201xxx, which by number would seem to indicate the year 1927. I see no mention of the significance of the leading "M". I am trying to determine the model and the value, since some reconditioning is needed before giving the instrument to my granddaughter. Your help would be most appreciated.
