28M CONN

I was told that my 28M has original pads on it. He said that they are original because on one of the pads the metal plate inside is showing on the side. What was the purpose of putting a metal plate inside the playing pads? Do all Conn saxophones have this metal plate in their pads?

You don't know that these are original pads, meaning that they are the pads that came in the new horn. But likely is that they are Conn reso-pads, which is the style Conn used then. Reso-pads have a metal ring that define the circumfrence of the pad, making it possible to insert the pad into the key cup, without adhesives, and have it stay in place. How much for the horn? Lefty
