looking for info about a saxophone

I've had my saxophone for years and have recently thought about selling. I have been searching for information on the web about the make and year but have come up empty handed. It is brass and the bell is stenciled with "bandmaster" and the serial is #17276. There seems to be a variety of bandmaster saxophones out there, but I can't find any with my serial number. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Re: looking for info about a saxophone

Your sax is very likely a "stencil" instrument, made by one of the major manufacturers such as Conn, Martin, or Buescher under contract. Serial numbers on such horns are usually impossible to trace. Knowledgeable people can usually determine the manufacturer by noting design elements common to your horn and the manufacturer's regular output, and can at least narrow the date range somewhat, since these horns usually had some, but not all, of the standard output's features at the time of manufacture.
