Holton Alto Sax

I have a Frank Holton alto that was handed down to me from my great-great aunt. She played it in High School and I have seen dates on the pads during a re-pad in 1979 that were dated 1921. The s/n is 12503. Does anyone have any information regarding actual age and value of this horn?

Does it say Chicago or Elkhorn, Wisconsin on the engraving? If it says Elkhorn, it's post- 1918 (that's when they moved the factory from Chicago). I play a Holton soprano from the 20s and it's a great horn.

Thanks for the info....It's an Elkhorn, Wisconsin model. It seems well made but I'm getting a lot of resistance in the low register. I think I may try a different mouthpiece set up to try to overcome it. What do you think?

It's far more likely that you have leaks in the horn. Have a tech take a look at it before you start laying out cash sampling a plethora of mouthpieces.
