Buying a sax

I bought my first sax a year ago. The music shop repairman played a couple different ones, so I could hear the difference. (I'd never played a sax.) I'm thinking of trading in my present one and buying another, but this time I'd like to test play the saxes myself. What is the etiquette? There must be some things you should and shouldn't do. Thanks for any help.
