conn sax id question?

I have a conn sax serial #681737 with the shooting stars on the bell. Can anybody provide any info on this model and any ideas on value. I'm trying to determine if I should let my 12 year old learn on this model or if I should just buy a new one if the conn has any real value. Thanks for your help!

    You have a Conn Director model, which was that companies replacement student line for their previous Pan American intermediate/marching band line of saxophones. If it has wire keyguards, the serial number would suggest a manufacture date of approximately 1957/58. This was a better era for these otherwise indifferent quality, student level horns.
