Mouthpiece Advice

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the confusing world of mouthpieces? Baffles, Chambers, Tips etc and what effect they have. I play a Bronze Yanigisawa Tenor and aspire to play jazz and blues.I need the ability to play at all volumes and in different styles to fit in. And to come over as a solo instrument. I was thinking metal? (Vandoren T55?) I play in small (5 peice) jazz groups, along with street bands and big bands at sixth form, also soloing at concerts. If anyone could give me some pointers as to what to go for or look at and what to discount that would be excellent
