by eccjazz (3 posts) 17 years ago Re: Marching Band Shows! hahahaha marching at my school is ... well, we play a new show every week. and i'm arranging the music. we play pop. and it's a ton of fun, and the crowd LOVES it. haha this year we're playing outkast, and madonna and... it's hilarious, and it's a joke. but it's so fun. and we look like crap when we move and play, but the crowd doesn't care. We march 250+ people, and this year 24 saxes (too many to be honest). The music is cool though. We got through our pre-show and opener on the field. Just two more movements to go. My high school marching band is doing a jazz-type show. We're playing Caravan, Brazil, and Blues in the Night, and I couldn't be more excited! We R doing A New orleans themed show. The tenor sax part is somewhat hard lol. Our band director left, but we got a guy named Mr. Capps. I made a pitch to our band director to do DREAMGIRLS. I love the music because isn't as harsh as most marching music and I have so many little ideas to put in the show. We're doing it because of our immense sax section, 16 members (possibly with tenors and baris, too, because we dont usually march with them at my school)!!! We're doing a Paul Simon show. I haven't heard a full recording of it yet so hopefully it will be good. I guess it's to keep nasty old geezers from posing as high school students, but isn't it lying to begin with? We won't be going to any marching competitions, so whatever. But I'm not quitting or anything just because we're not competing. I'm 18 and in college as a freshman (duh). Our marching band did an Arabian theme this year.
