Oliver Ditson Low Pitch Alto
I own an Oliver Ditson low pitch alto. I bought back in 1972 and was told it was a silver Martin although nothing on it says Martin. Engraving under the bell simply says:
Oliver Ditson
Boston
New York
The back is stamped:
A
LOW PITCH
189504
I have what I believe is the original case, mouth piece and ligature. The ligature is also stamped with an A.
I played this sax in High School but switched to bari in college. I wanted to play in the jazz/stage band as a freshman and the alto players were too good.
I haven't played regularly for over 30 years but still enjoy picking it up and wailing every once in a while. I read an article in the Post Dispatch about SaxQuest this morning and it got me thinking about my old/vintage sax.
If anyone has found out more about the Oliver Ditsons or can further help identify the origins of mine I would greatly appreciate it.
