Curved Conn New Wonder 1 Soprano Neckstrap AdviceHello All or should I say You Few that read these. I picked up a 1921-22 (64XXX) Conn Curved Soprano that I have had my eye on for a few years. The owner finally decided to let me have it. They dont play, but it belonged to Mom at one time. These horns are wonderful players as anyone that has played one is aware. BUT.... The neckstrap hook location is truly just there to make it look like a miniature alto. It should be closer to the thumb rest. I am not going to move it. I took a gander on line and realized nobody uses a neckstrap with these. My issue is that I am all over a saxophone. I cannot play it to my ability without either a neck strap helping to support it or sitting with it, having it sit on a folded towel on my thigh. A neckstrap has to be adjusted/pulled all the way up to my neck, like a dog collar, for the distance to be correct to my mouth and the neckstrap hook.
Any suggestions of a different type strap? I think I can make one with a heavy shoe string that will work and still fit over my huge Scottish head. It is probably about getting the distance right without having the mid range length adjustment in play.
