Yamaha's no F# and laquerless?

Hey, I was just checking out the price on some Z series tenors for yamaha, and they now come with the option of having no F# and no laquer. I understand the laquer thing, but the no high F#? I know none of the old horns have one, including my mark VI bari, but does the existence of the key really affect the sound? What do you guys think about these things?

This is known informally as the Metz Conversion. I met the guy in Chicago before the Zs came out. I think there is something about the sound of the higher register (palms and up) without the extra key in there, but of course, this is subjective.
