Russian Made Saxophones

Does anyone know anything about Russian saxophones? I bid on one on eBay but Quit at the $300 point because I wasn't really sure what I would be getting. It was silner plated and the logo was an "M". It had a large interesting G# mechanisim. I thought it would be funny because I have a band called The Socialists Party. Did I avoid buying something similar to a Chineese piece of junk or did I miss a an Imperial Soviet Military Masterpiece?

    haha probably similar to a Chinese piece of junk if it was that cheap. But I'm just making assumptions.

      I would think that the quality would be comparable to the Czech made horns, which are actually pretty good for the money. Russian quality is usually pretty good. They sure do love their Vodka though. I used to work with a Russian guy who I swear was drunk every day by noon! I think he put Vodka on his cornflakes! Great guy though.

        yeah, I would assuem Russian horns would have some decent quality. Personally I would think they would be a little over built, and less on the decoration... but I could be wrong. Vodka on cornflakes? seriously?

          What? A Russian Sax? What's next Russian sports cars? I want to see one. Do they look like an old Keilwerth copy? If so I bet they are Pretty good horns. I know that Keilwerth designed a lot of the Czech horns.

        Look up Russian Saxophone on a completed search on e-bay. It was really cool looking. The oversized oviod G# mechanism has a cool deco feel. Kind of like the lower right hand spatula key on an Evette.
