Do I really need a high F# key on a new soprano saxophone ?

Hey gang, I have played Tenor for a long time but I would like to start on the soprano here shortly and I wondered if I really need a high F# key. What exactly will that key do for me. Any help would be great. Thanks for your imput.

you'll have a hard time playing high F# with or without the key.

No, you dont.... You need the high G key, lol With the way most modern soprano is written, both those keys will be invaluable to you!

I think the only sopranos worth buying (newer models) have high F#. The only ones that don't have F#3 are older and not worth the risk of intonation battles. Not to say all vintage sops have bad intonation (don't get your panties in a bunch Conn/Martin lovers) - but your odds of good intonation are much more in your favor if you stick to newer sops that have the high F# key. I'm still looking for a taker on my Yani (cheap! cheap!) if anyone's interested.
