Playing a tenor

I took some lessons on an alto and can hit the notes without much trouble. I just purchased a tenor and have a difficult time hitting a high G or high D. Any thoughts?

Try the basic stuff.. Tighten lipping, faster air speed. It's all abt practice like everyone says. Try mastering the alto first before going straight to the tenor.

Do you mean the G that sits on top of the staff? If so, your horn might have something out of adjustment in the octave mechanism, because the G key (ring finger, left hand) is the one where the octave mechanism switches from lower to upper. It could be that both are slightly open. If you're talking the D above that, maybe the same thing? Take it to a repair technician. See if she or he can diagnose mechanical problem.
