Yamaha serial numbers?

I've been googling like crazy and can't find a list/reference for Yamaha sax serial numbers anywhere. I'm interested in any information at all, but particularly in how to determine the approximate age of a YAS-23 from the 1st three digits...

    there is no list, and you wont get one fom yamaha, its been tried; sorry!

      Weird way to do business... I was hoping that at least some long-time retailer had at least kept track of the rough progression, but I guess yamaha doesn't necessarily number them in order, either.

    Seems that a discussion list might help if you had a specific YAS-23 (serial number) whose age you were trying to determine. Then people could respond and possibly bracket the horn's age. Unless you wanted to start a serial number list by asking for input from YAS-23 owners. I think I heard this question elsewhere previously.
