Letters on Mark VI's

I used to have a 153XXX tenor. On the underside of certain keys there were letters, i.e. the High E/F on the right side of the horn had an H. Now I have a 110XXX. It has a "F". The low Bb key has a "G". What was the function of these letters when making the horns?
