SELMER Super Action 80 serie III (1995-)

The next model in the Super Action 80 line is the Series III. This model was announced in 1993, with the first sax available being a soprano. The first one in the Selmer books is # 484036, produced in middle 1992 for shipping the next year. This was the first soprano from Selmer to come with both straight and curved detachable necks, and keywork to high G. The sopranos were stamped “Super Action 80 Serie III” in the first couple years, but in 1995 Selmer dropped the first part and afterwards they were just stamped “Serie III”.

The first tenors were manufactured in 1995, starting with # 529312, and were in in full production by # 540911. The first prototype alto was in 1996, and were in the rotation by 2000, and the bari followed a few years later in 2008.

Also of note in the Series III run was the Millennium Edition, made to commemorate the year 2000. These were only available as an alto sax, the Selmer records list each as “A.III.2000”. These featured a matte brushed silver body and matte gold lacquered keys. This “frosty” like look is incredible, one of the most unique looking saxophones you will find if you can see it in person.

The Series III was updated in 2010 with new "Jubilee" style engraving. The octave key on the neck was also slightly changed. No other changes were made, and besides the key and engraving, the horns are otherwise identical to the earlier models. The Series III altos were discontinued in 2021, after the introduction of the Selmer Paris Supreme.
