OTTO LINK New York Slant Signature (1935-1940)

First appearing in 1935, the New York Slant Signature was Otto Link's first attempt at a hard rubber mouthpiece.  These mouthpieces have essentially the same interior design as their metal Four**** counterparts.  This was an attempt by Otto Link to produce a mouthpiece that had the same kind of feel and sound as the metal Four****, but at a much cheaper price.

Charecteristics of New York Slant Signature:

  • Otto Link stamp at a Slant
  • "Otto Link & Co. New York" machining around chamber
  • Facing stamp on bottom of the table
  • Circle chain band around body above Otto Link stamp

Production of the New York Slant Sig mouthpieces really took off in the late 1930's as musicians bought into the lesser expensive price point. Today these mouthpiece are highly sought after.  In an ironic twist, today an Otto Link hard rubber NY slant tenor mouthpiece will typically sell for nearly 5-10 times that of the metal Otto Link Four**** tenor mouthpiece.

Otto Link would eventually come back to reuse the Slant Signature stamping design on his Tone Edge model starting again in 1946.
