M.C. GREGORY Los Angeles Composite (-)

The Los Angeles Composite mouthpieces are very different from the earlier vintage Model A and Model B M.C. Gregory mouthpieces.  The first big difference is that these mouthpieces were not manufactured from hard rubber, but were actually made from resin.  They seem much cheaper in quality to many, and are imediately assumed as being not as good as the earlier vitange Gregory mouthpieces.  These are actually very good playing mouthpieces, and tend to play with a little more edge than the previous Modal A and B pieces.

Charecteristics of Los Angeles Composite:

  • M.C. Gregory diamond stamp on back of mouthpiece
  • "Rico Products Ltd. Distributor" stamped below Gregory stamp
  • Serial Number stamped below rico stamp
  • Facing number and length stamp on left side of table
  • Chamber size stamp on right side of table
  • Four small rings around shank

Gregory kept the stamping pretty much the same in comparison to what it was on the previous Model A and Model B moutpieces.  The only noticeable difference is he moved the serial number from the shank up to the bottom of the barrel.  They also removed the metal ring around the shank of the mouthpiece and replaced it with four small rings that were machined in.

These mouthpieces play brighter, and with a little more edge than the Model A and B pieces.

Gregory also released a special limited edition version of this mouthpiece called the "Mickey Gillette Model".  These pieces were a hair brighter than the regular Los Angeles Composites.  The Mickey Gillette Model stamp is on these mouthpieces in place of the serial number stamp.  These special edition mouthpieces have no serial numbers.
