The Model B mouthpiece looks very similar to the Model A at a glance, but they are actually quite different. The earliest models had stampings in all of the same places on the mouthpiece as the Model As. The later models moved the serial number stamp from the shank around to the back of the barrel under the Rico stamp. The body of these mouthpieces is actually a lot thinner, or narrower than the Model A. The interior design of the Model B is very different from the Model A as well. They play with a much darker sound, and have a very different response in comparison.
Charecteristics of Gregory Model B:
The biggest changes made to the Model B mouthpieces concerning the interior design were the chamber, and inner side walls. The Model A had rounded inner side walls, whereas the Model B changed to straight inner side walls. The chamber of the mouthpieces got a little bit smaller too. These mouthpieces were still all hand finished, and made with the same great hard rubber used in the Model As, but have virtually no baffle which results in a very dark sound.
